What Do I Have In Common With Hello Kitty & Lady Gaga?

September 8th, 2010

screen-shot-2010-09-08-at-105959-am

Well I’m still trying to figure that out, but I do know I just painted the two for a very special and private gathering in my studio.

My friend the AMAZING photographer Cesar Altamirano wanted to do something special for his wife’s b day and asked if I would do a performance of her two favorite things: Hello Kitty and Lady Gaga.  For Cesar, yes.

This past weekend Cesar, his wife Annie, and a few of her closest friends stopped by to watch me create.  There are some pics here but check out Cesars Flickr for a lot more.

(P.S. No I do not normally give private performances at my studio.  Sorry)

New Art: Color From The Sky Collection

August 16th, 2010

Color From The Sky Collection

I introduce to you part 1 of the “Color From The Sky Collection”.

The past few years I have found myself flying all over the world and at most times I always feel like I’m on a plane 30,000 feet in the sky.  I’ve spent most of that time catching up on sleep, but also creating.

I started most of these images on planes and later finished them in hotel rooms, airports, or back home.  So most of these started out as “Color From The Sky”.  Most of you know me as the “performance painter” on stage or you’ve seen my posters online or in stores.  This is just another side to me as an artist.  The creativity never stops.  I definitely have some more coming, but let me know what you think about the first set from the series.

I would love to hear from you!

A Little Creative Fun At The Airport!

April 26th, 2010

Garibaldi_4_26_2010_4

I got a Wacom Tablet (my design peeps know what I’m talking about) to have a little more creative fun while I travel.  Here is something I did while I was waiting for my plane today.  It is untitled, but all the color and the sketch is digital (still does not beat the real thing).

Anyways, enjoy, and I hope you have a great Monday!

“Hand In Hand” / acrylic on ping pong paddles mounted to masonite / 18″ x 24″ (total size)

Yes, ping pong paddles.  That was the challenge and inspiration for my latest piece.  Which has got to be the opposite of my recent project the Kings billboard.

I chose this medium to actually be a part of a bigger collective show that is the Ambiguous Paddle Show showing this weekend, December 12th and United State Boutique in Sacramento.  I wanted to depict the relationship with my wife with the imagery and paddles.  Unfortunately I will be attending another event in LA, but I recommend you don’t miss this event to see this original and the other works of art.

United State, a DJ/Clothing boutique in Sacramento’s midtown dedicated to preserving the style and culture of  the local DJ’s and Emcees has teamed up with Ambiguous Clothing, a raw and edgy brand, to host Ambiguous’ traveling ping-pong paddle art show.  This art show has toured the globe, showing the talent of local artists in Brooklyn, Barcelona, Las Vegas, and Paris. This event will be held at United State Boutique and will showcase 40-60 pieces.  Art work from local artists, like, myself,  Amanda Lopez and John Stuart Berger, as well as, pieces from previous showings will be available for a free public viewing from 6pm to 10pm.  Following the show, United State Boutique will be hosting an exclusive invitation only after party sponsored by Miller Genuine Draft.

Meet My New Collectors From Dallas

November 22nd, 2009

Meet My new collectors The McDonalds’s from Dallas, Texas!

This past weekend I was invited to perform for the 33rd Annual Dallas Margarita Ball. The biggest, invite only, black tie event brings in more than 10,000 people from the Dallas area. It’s a huge party, but also with a purpose.

Since it’s inception, The Dallas Margarita Society has always used it’s annual party to benefit Dallas Childrens Charities in a BIG way. As each person walks in they leave a toy for a child in need. That’s a lot of toys, and a whole truck load of over 7,000 toys at that.

Needless to say, the party was amazing, the limited edition prints donated by my publishers SOLD OUT, and the paintings from my performance went a long way to raise funds. The fun didn’t stop that night.

The morning after the ball I had brunch with a group of new collectors of my work, and after brunch, I personally hand embellished their limited edition giclee’s with some paint.

One of my new collectors were the McDonalds. They stood out because they got something no one else did. They asked if I could “add” their daughter Emily to their giclee. So I painted her pertying along with my version of a DJ Tinkerbell.

If you look closely, you’ll see Emily dancing along on the bottom of the image. I told her that is how I imagined her in this world.

I’ve never done anything like that before, but it was a rewarding experience. To give the McDonald Family something they will always remember and a weekend in Dallas I will never forget.

Thank you to all of the great people in Dallas who welcomed me to their city, I look forward to coming back and painting again.

“Kings Now Flying”  /  48′ wide by 14′ high  /  It is going up TODAY (November 17th) at 9:30 am in the Sacramento Area, north-bound on Highway 99, just north of Mack Road.

The Sacramento Kings collaborated with more than 15 local artists, including me, to create original billboards inspired by the team.  They obviously could have printed huge pictures of the players, but instead they shined light on a lot of amazing local talent.  Scroll to the bottom of this blog for a link to more artist billboards.

I have a large collection of photos and video for this project, which I will post later, but for now I just want to share with you a few photos taken by Cesar Altamirano and the location of where you can see it live.

A HUGE thank you to The Maloofs, Heather, Casey, Don, and everyone on the Kings marketing team for this amazing opportunity and for making this happen. I also want to thank my good friend Dan Juris who assisted me with this project, and Sherwin Williams Paints for the great colors.

I’LL SEE YOU AT A KINGS GAME!!!

“See With Love” // Closer Look At New Painting

October 8th, 2009

see-with-love_border1

“See With Love” / 12″ x 9″ / Acrylic on Canvas

You may or may not have seen the video (posted below) that tells the story of what it took to create this painting, but I also wanted to share with you the inspiration behind it.

There is a really inspiring young guy named Jaeson Ma who is an up and coming inspirational musician, speaker, and pastor.  I was reading one of his posts on Twitter (@jaesonma) the other day that read, “3 things asking God 2 help me grow in & become better @ 1) Listening 2) Patience 3) Selflessness”.  When I read that I realized I need and want to see the world in a whole new way.  So the painting reflects something that has been on my heart lately, and I don’t think it’s too much to ask if we could all see through the eyes of “Love”.

Take a closer look of the painting below.

My September 11 Tribute Painting // “Butterfly Prayer”

September 11th, 2009

september-11-tribute_garibaldi

“Butterfly Prayer” / 72″ x 62″ / Latex On Canvas / Created September 11th, 2009

When I woke up today, I had no idea I was going to create this.  It’s been 8 years and this is the first September 11th tribute I have ever done.  As I watched CNN and most major news networks covering the memorials and honoring the many lives lost, I had a moment of inspiration came over me.  The inspiration turned into a prayer, and the prayer turned into a painting.

I prayed that God would have had mercy on the innocent, and that when their time came, they just flew up to him where they belonged.

As much as I would want you to take in the actual painting, I’m more interested in you taking in the meaning.  You can see more close ups of the painting below.
